In the district of Fontevecchia, on the North-West border of the town, excavations carried out by the Ancona Archaeological Board revealed a settlement in 1968 containing sub-Apennine materials while ruins of Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements were discovered later in the district of St. Giovanni.

Five cave tombs with vertical entry were also discovered containing Rinaldone type finds.

More than one hundred Picene tombs with their typical extended inhumation burial form dating to the XIth - IIIrd centuries NC were found in the same localities of Camerano. Almost all the finds from these tombs are in the Marche Region National Archaeological Museum of Ancona while others are in the Municipal Antiquarium; they include archaic terracotta vases and bowls and Picene pottery, parts of a Greek Kylix with black figures on an ochre background and fragments of Greek vases, a curved Celtic sword, lances, an iron axe and remains of Picene weapons, women’s jewels and ornaments.
